When I was very young I was diagnosed with a form of Muscular Dystrophy: Charcot Marie Tooth. This condition affected daily life for this young (very Texan!) adventurous girl. While adjusting to different abilities from my family and peers dealt a more than few tough lessons, I found my way to independence. I am enthusiastic about life, and enjoy being part of things I love. For instance, my love for sports lead me to become a manager in my small hometown. Through multiple surgeries and other health concerns, my circle of family and friends have always been there to pick me up when I fall down. My goal is to help others find their own strong circle of support, regardless of ability.
Can you tell I’m a social creature? My greatest joys in life are adventuring with my dogs, fishing, hunting, traveling, dancing, and chasing my nieces and nephews. Being “Aunt ShayShay” to my sisters’ and friends’ kiddoes and enjoying holiday’s and sport season; traditions filled with Sonic runs and dance parties are a huge part of my life.
I hope to share with you some of my experiences with different abilities, and making the most of this life (and what people and places can help accommodate your BEST LIFE!) Hard days will happen, however, my hope is through our different abilities and perspectives we are able to help each other along the way.
